Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a hands-on therapy which assists the body’s natural capacity for self-repair. Osteopathic doctors first made observations about the craniosacral rhythm by watching the tissues and cerebrospinal fluid move around the spinal cord during spinal surgery. Bones, organs, and other structures in the body follow their own patterns of subtle movement as well.
What conditions does craniosacral therapy treat?
Any trauma, stresses, strains, or tensions which remain in the body restrict the body’s functioning and may give rise to problems over the years. The effects may be both physical (back pain, muscle pain, joint pain, migraines, sinusitis, or digestive disorders) and emotional (depression or anxiety).
What can I expect from treatment?
To receive craniosacral therapy, you lie on a massage table face up fully clothed while the therapist’s hands make light contact with different areas of the body. The therapist identifies restrictions in the body’s tissues. The therapist provides an opportunity for the body to let go of the restrictions and return to an easier way of functioning. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation and become aware of heat, tingling or other sensations in the body as restrictions in tissues are released. Benefits of craniosacral therapy can include increased energy, greater ease on mental and emotional levels and reduction in physical pain.
Craniosacral Therapy for Infants and Children
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle technique that has a relaxing effect on babies and young children. Using this type of light touch helps relax fascia, a type of connective tissue in the body, removing tension from the cranial bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissues. Craniosacral therapy can be beneficial for infants and children that have difficulty sleeping, restlessness after feeding, difficulty with nursing, gassiness, torticollis, allergies, or reflux.
